SAFE Center

Applying trauma-informed design and communication strategies at the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Center at Jefferson-Abington Hospital.

At the intersection of medicine, trauma, and the law sits the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Center. This project addressed the complex communication needs of patients and providers alike. As part of a larger redesign of the SAFE Center location within the hospital, I helped lead a team of designers to create visual and communication designs that incorporate trauma-informed principles. In a still burgeoning field, I conducted interviews, site visits, and feedback sessions to build a foundation on which these designs can succeed.

This project received a Graphic Design USA Health + Wellness Award 2021.

This project was completed with Thomas Jefferson MS Health Communication Design students: Stephen Andreo, Alyssa Leigel, Iman Morsey, Eva Floyd, and Megan Garrity.
